    Default Hats

Can we talk about hats, please?

Now that it's starting to get cold, I feel like a doofus (and a cold doofus at that) going out in a heavy coat, scarf and gloves, with my head uncovered. I feel like most of the traditional brimmed hats look odd on young men (and I'm not wearing a knit cap with a suit and tie). Any insight or bright ideas? Basically this sums up my feelings about every hat I've ever tried on:

Flat caps/driving caps work ok (Wigens is a good brand) or just get used to a small-brim fedora with a slight pinch. 2 1/8" or 2" brim look good on a skinnier guy.

Yeah, I've tried both of those and thought I looked like I was on my way to a LARP convention.

With some amount of cojones you could rock the kangol. Otherwise suck it up and get a wool winter cap that doesn't look foul with your scarf.

Winter is the time to let your hair get shaggy 'round the ears. Solved.
    Got some cash
    Bought some wheels
    Took it out

    But we're alright

Hey Ben, same problem here. On a recent trip to Greece I found a few hat specific stores, and was actually able to find a few models/colors that were tasteful and didn't make me look like an idiot. My wife and her straight opinion helped here, so my point is to go to a proper hat store with a nice selection and ask the personal for assistance, and to have an open mind to try various styles. Otherwise, aside from a suit and tie outfit, a knit style hat always works in my experience. Good luck.

Some of us look good in a fedora. But then, some of us are no longer "young men".

Stocking caps, baseball caps, even cycling caps work for me. Flat caps, Kangols, that "Fidel" cap from atmo: Not so much.

But my wife looks hot in the Fidel cap:

Agreed, the UP is God's country! If I could live up on the Keweenah, I'd be happy as a clam. Mountain bike, kayak, hunt, fish and on the 3rd weekend of every October, drive a rally car. What more could one want? Well, a couple of pasties from the Suomi wouldn't hurt, I guess.

Maybe one of Worth & Worth's casual hats like the tweed Jockey Cap or the cashmere Newsboy would work?

I've got a big head, and yet I can't seem to pull off the atmo Fidel. I want to sport that thing so badly.
