    Default New USPS sorting depot?

So I ordered a re-build kit for the pool vacuum on Amazon. Supplier has warehouses in various places and my order seems to have shipped out of California.

Looks like USPS have adopted the FedEx / UPS model of setting up hubs for Trans-shipping in places that seem to make no sense.

They must have got a deal on the rent.

What do you suppose the chances are that I will ever see this package?

hah! I've had crap like that happen to my international parcels. I've had the item in hand and the USPS tracker has said it's still in customs, or in transit. I wouldnt worry too much - despite the website telling you its in Japan, it's probably out for delivery today. Either that or you should re-order from somewhere else.

Amazon is usually pretty good about these things. Alert them to the issue and you may get it tomorrow.

Since it's almost impossible that the sender caused the package to go astray I don't think ordering from somewhere else will solve the problem.

In my view complaining about delayed or lost courier packages is like the car drivers who complain "all cyclists run red lights" because they saw it once but forgot about the thousands of uneventful successes.

In the last 3 years, we've had nearly $700 worth of packages go missing (we were resent or refunded everything except $200 worth.) When I really pressed hard on the last one and tracked down things for about 3 weeks, I got it down to a particular unnamed mail carrier who had delivered most of the missing packages. I called the Federal Postal Inspector and made a report. Now no one at the Post Office will talk to me. I am tempted to mail myself a series of packages marked obviously with names of famous retailers and containing a GPS chip just to see where they go.

So missing packages may not always be so mythical.

In the meantime, we ship things to my wife's office, which is not optimal but is secure. We are probably going to start using a service called Doorman. You send the package to them, then contact them when you would like the package delivered. Reports are favorable.

You can't win here, you can only lose worse. From what I've read, seen, and heard it actually can get worse.

This really sounds like an episode of Seinfeld. I'd watch.
