    Default velocipedesalon.com domain name resolution

Don't worry I am not asking for a refund :)

I can't say if it is every day or only some days, but definitely around the midday area in CEST timezone the velocipedesalon.com domain do not resolve. This happen on my spanish provider's DNS as well as those from uncensoreddns and I might have tried google and cloudflare ones once. Knowing how DNS work I can't think of any way to achieve that except by having short TTL on the record and deleting/recreating them on a regular basis. velocipedesalon.com seems to be the only domain on which I can observe that.

Curious to know if others have experienced this, if Toots know why, or if it is just my setup. I would be suprised because it does the same on different computers, my smartphone, both on my wifi and mobile DATA (same provider though) but more importantly with other third party DNS servers.

For those who have no idea what all this means, the symptom would be your web browser complaining it can't find/reach the website/server.

It happens. I think it has something to do with some kind of backup and restore cleanup refresh cycle running through its paces around 6AM EST, so CET would be 12PM. But I don't know exactly. I do know that often during those moments (rarely longer than 30min) I can access the site if I turn on the VPN and run everything through a different IP address. So I wonder if there is some IP reservation system that is full or something - does that exist/happen?

The thing is dns doesn't care if the server is available.ornot, it is just a record mapping a name to an ip address (think yellow pages) and it has a TTL (time to live), which means my local dns server should not ask for the address if it already know for that amount of time, and the record has to actually disappear for the name server to say "I don't know".

I am not aware of a single setup that flush a record without updating it when it comes to a service supposed to be online at all time.

My job is to maintain IT services and applications online, both on premises and in cloud services and I have no idea what is happening with vsalon dns record, hence my curiosity.

At least I am glad I am not the only.one who noticed this.

It's been happening to me for quite a while. Usually once or twice a day.

Hmmm. I'll see what's what. FWIIFW there have been no changes to nameservers for years and years.

    I blame space lasers.

WWW DNS can get funky. I won't say why.

Try this before you get crazy. This begins with a primer on how to use Open DNS: https://www.howtogeek.com/164981/how...-web-browsing/

If you know the drill I suggest change to Google DNS:
    Google DNS
    Preferred: 8.8.8.8
    Alternate: 8.8.4.4
    OpenDNS
    Preferred: 208.67.222.222
    Alternate: 208.67.220.220

I know nothing of this stuff but this has been happening to me for a couple of years now. Usually, a wait of ten minutes and everything works again. Sometimes I have to quit the browser and re-open. I always thought it was me.
Not really a bother for me, but for the sake of gathering data, yep, it occurs.

For me, like Thomas, it happens only for VS, not for other sites.

In my case, the connection resolves itself in less than 2 seconds, the "can't find" error message goes away, and the site is displayed so I haven't given it much thought until Thomas mentioned it.

Seems DNS service agnostic. Google, Open, etc.

Which was why I wondered if it was something about the VSalon server controlling or limiting number of IP addresses with access at any one time. Something built-in to prevent a DNS flood. Or a "collision" of some sort. It happens most often with my iPhone. But I can fix it immediately if I turn on the VPN and pretend I am from London when I'm actually in NYC. So appears nothing is truly down, just perhaps congested or momentarily blocked in a "no vacancy" or "cool your jets" kind of way.

But at least on the outside, it isn't a problem. Just a momentary fidget. Excuse to go make coffee.

Right now there are only 402 users online, 4 of which are members, and it happened so it doesn't seem to be an issue related to traffic volume?

It happens to me sometimes - seems to be usually mid-morning GMT which I wouldn't expect to be a popular time for most visitors?

Typically after seeing this thread I thought I would jot down when it happens - and it hasn't happened since!
It's not the years, honey. It's the mileage.

It has happened to me 3 times or so since I created this thread. I don't mind too much the "downtime" as I see it as a kind of cure to procratination.

I am however very curious about the technicality of the cause. For a time I didn't analysed the exact error and I was thinking there were probably some scheduled automatic maintenance downtimes. This is only when I realized it looked like a dns issue that it started to bother me.

Just happened to me for the first time in a while - approx 11:12 GMT and it was fine 5 minutes later.
