    Default Mittens

Last winter my wife took up knitting. She had decided that she needed to try to be more domestic and knitting was the most domestic task she could think of, so that's what she took up.

She made me a pair last winter that didn't fit quite right. Last fall she vowed to remedy the situation, and about Christmas time she gave me these:

They're based on a tradition pattern from the Selbu region of Norway, and they fit me really well. It's amazing what she can do with two needles and some yarn.

Nice work! Scandinavian color work is fun stuff.

I've been knitting for around a decade or so. I guess I could post some of the things I've made over the years.

This is the spot of them. Go for it!

Until then, here's a pair she made for herself last fall.

Here's a patterned lace scarf that I made for my wife a few weeks ago. Way simpler than it looks. Lace is fun that way.

Fingerless wool gloves. As Kempt says “I’m not a hobo, damn it—I have an iPhone.”
Useful for riding around town on the flat bar road bike, too.

    And shooting.

A really bad photo of a pair of scandinavian mittens I made a few years ago. They get almost zero use in Tennessee, but they look nice.

And lots and lots of well used (and repaired) socks. I probably knit more socks than anything else. Nothing feels like a freshly washed and blocked pair of handmade socks, and they last forever. I have pairs that are 6 or 7 years old that haven't ever been repaired.

    Love it.
