the illy cups were purchased years ago. they weren't cheap at the time but not quite the current pricing.

Plain white illy espresso cups right now but I'm jonesing for some of the more intricate illy designs. There's an illy shop in the Detroit airport and I may give in some day. Where have you been buying yours?

i actually really like the cups/ demitasses from King. the shape, the...handle(?). i recently learned that the manufacturer is well regarded (Inker).

the plain white illy products are nice and simple. $32/4 isn't too bad, either. i might get some of those.

I'm all about spending as little on shipping as possible. Therefore I buy stuff from SweetMarias since I'm already ordering from them all the time.

This is my fav demitasse right now. It has a lot of mass so it can cool a really hot shot, or you can warm it if your portafilter pulls heat from the shot well.

also have a few of these. I like the one with the blue dots.

I purchased them in 2008 direct from Illy as part of a limited edition throw-back sale. The cup with the train wheels initially came out in 1999, the espresso cups in 2002, and the blue cup in 2006. All of them are extremely well made. When I first got into coffee roasting, espresso machines, and grinders; I went on a slightly over the top buying spree. There is a 6 pack of the Maria João Calisto cups in the basement untouched for a decade. Also part of the buying spree ... a 6 pack of the La Marzocco cups above. Only one or two made it out of the box. Needless to say, I haven't needed to purchase espresso or cappuccino cups in a long time. Did I over buy?

yessir. and, being insulated, leaving them on top of the machine does little to warm the interior. so, what i do when using these, is put some hot water from the grouphead in, then place them back on the warming tray.

    Folks,

Please direct me to the perfect cup for cappuccinos. I hate most of the handles on these things: too small to put a finger through but the sides are too pointy to be comfy or too big and wonky.
Used a demitasse a few weeks ago form Julius Meinl that had a handle that has a slight twist to it -- seems to hug my fingers better than most but still not 100% there.

This is a stupid quest but I'm sure someone else has dealt with this. For clarity: these are for 5-6 oz cappuccinos not McVenti sized abominations.

    danke.

Oh man the look of those cups is great! But I'm not a fan of those handles.

Maybe I can ask Ergon to engineer some cups that match the comfort of their ergo grips . . .

The handles on those Illy cups are a little goofy looking, but they retain heat really well. The porcelain is thick enough to keep a double ristretto warm for a minute or two, provided you’ve preheated them. E2A1A911-DA0E-47B1-930E-EC4414E22372.jpg

It's a bit pricey at $30 but the Paul Smith cycling caps cappuccino cup is stellar. Note that it's a smaller size than the typical coffee mug in the US, and thus perfect for cappuccino. I love mine and treat it very carefully.

I have a dolce gusto pod maching at work (mainly because anything more complicated confuses others...) and I like the espresso pods - but I leave them a bit longer and get about a 1.5 espresso serving. While moaning to my mum recently about not having cups she remembered this wedding present from the 70s which she had never used (mainly due to not being able to put them in the microwave or the dishwasher because of the silver strip). Work for me - they don't hold heat for too long being thin but a brief prewarm and it works fine for espresso. Matching saucers but I've never used them!

custom designed by me, these cups were handmade a talented ceramicist and friend, Helena Pratt of Hellenica Ceramics in Girona. (Her shop is just past Federal cafe on Carrer Forca heading towards the cathedral) A pair went to family members and a few of our special Catalan friends as Christmas gifts
