Internal cable hardware crack

So I had a bad feeling about this hardware when I bought it (giant gaping hole in a high-stress area of the tube) but it came from a respected builder who supposedly makes frequent use of this piece. One year later...

Surely I can't be the only person this happens to. Thoughts feelings comments and concerns please. A little consolation would be nice too.IMG_3635.jpg
