    Default Shimano Frame Requirements manual

Does anyone know where to find the latest shimano frame requirements manual. I found this one:

    2009_Cover

but that only has info on the br-r550 canti brake. i purchased the br-cx50 brake. I need to know the required boss spacing and distance from axle. can i just assume the same dimensions as br-r550? the pdf states that i can mount the bosses as close as 65 mm but everything else i read recommends 80 mm. 80mm is too big for my ss spacing if i am going to mount the boss 283 mm from the axle. i can do a 75 mm boss spacing, which looks like it would be fine for the br-r550 but need to make sure it will work with the br-cx50.

015_12A.jpgThe simple thing to do is to mock up the arrangement.

If you find that the best post c-c dimension (whatever that means to you) places the post bases in a position that doesn't work with the frame tubes then you need to get creative. You either change the canti (and also the c-c), you change the frame design OR you change the way the post base is attached to the frame.

I've used a piece of tube that fits over the canti base increasing the potential surface area that contacts the frame. Attached is a shot. I have considered making a short "stand off" tube that the post base would attach to but have not needed to yet.

I prefer cantis that use a smooth post pad mount as they have a lot of adjustment range. Andy.

measure the cantis and your rim width ie...

brake pad height (with the spacer thingy) call this A
distance from the inner face of the brake arm to the centre of the pivot (parallel from the inside brake arm face) call this B
    rim width call this C

    2a + 2b + c = stud spacing

    hope it makes sense

Thanks for the quick replies. I also ended up calling shimano to confirm what i measured. after about an hour of trying to track down the right person to get me the info I needed I was able to get the following doc sent. They were not able to send me the hole manual because I am not an official shimano buyer or something to that tune.image008.png

What specifically are you looking for? There isn't anything di2- specific to the best of my knowledge

e.g. position of grommets, fixation of batteries (internal, external), bushing for power supply (if necessary)...

There is a Di2 manual with all that info. Here's the contents sheet from the 2013 lineup. Your Shimano rep should be able to supply this.

Does anyone have the current requirements for E2 type front dérailleurs?

From the link above I could get to the 2009 requirements book, but I think there has been a change from original E-type to the E2.

The E-type shows the further back mounting bolt in-line with the centre of the bb, but from looking at drawings of manufactures using E2 it looks like now the front bolt is in-line with bb centre.

It appears I was confused while looking at the manufactures frame drawing. The offset seat tube and their vertical "stack" line threw me off.

Not current but that folder has a bunch of Shimano info in it.

Sorry if this is OT, but can any frame builders here speak to feasiblity of retro-fit of Di2 internal cable routing on a steel frame? Is this pretty much something you can only do properly before the tubes are welded?

Your biggest obstacle will be the size of the vent hole in the BB shell behind the DT. If it is a standard 1/4" or 1/2" hole then you won't be able to slide the B-junction up into the DT from inside the BB shell. If the vent hole is large enough or if it is a lugged steel frame then you will be fine. Assuming you have teh B-junction issue sorted then you really only have three holes to drill (DT near the HT, ST below the FD, and the driveside CS). I think the E-tube connectors are about 5mm in dia so your holes need to be large enough to get the wires through.

Just reading this thread. I'm trying to figure out how thick and how big the reinforcing ring, around the DT hole especially, needs to be. Same thickness off tube wall and 3mm wide ring or a little bit more?

Been searching and searching, the web and VSalon archives... the closest I've come is this thread which is close to what I am looking for, but I'm looking for an update.

Does anyone have or know where to find the latest Shimano Frame Builders Specs? Specifically, I am looking for their standards on flat mount disc brake calipers for both frame and fork.

    Thanks!

No idea where I found it (late night internet digging?), but here's a link to the '15-'16 tech info book. It has drawings for flat mount front and rear.

Last time I needed those specs I had no luck finding them and just called Shimano. They sent me a flash drive with all the info on it. That was 2015 IIRC. The navigation on the Shimano site kind've sucks and I don't think everything is there.

2018 SRAM Frame Fit Specs, however, can be found here:
