Looks good. When I'm dressed to the 9s nothing says "I'm gonna get tight" like a dry martini. I'm not picky, just make it very very very cold and don't put it in a stupid giant martini glass thanks.

I'm a bourbon drinker. To-the-nines or naked; no matter.

Life is good while drinking a chilled Diet Coke while properly dressed in a 100% wool pinstriped suit.

Made the switch to Diet Coke, but then switched back. Drinking that stuff is one of the worst things you can do to yourself. Bordering on self flagellation.

To drink or not to drink is the question particularly in formal situations. First couple of drinks always get my face all red and make people think I'm drunk out of my mind... all that pretty much goes away with subsequent drinks though.

The conundrum I face is that I like Old Fashioneds. 98% of the time bartenders serve them in a rocks glass and all is right in the world. The problem is that 2% of the time, usually in a situation where image might matter, the bartender serves it without ice in a stemmed glass. That's just plain incorrect.

Since bartenders in nice bars often go astray trying to make an Old Fashioned "fancy", I usually order Scotch or Bourbon since I know it will show up in a glass I won't be ashamed to hold.

Its best to find out how a bar serves your favorite drink. If you don't like it, don't go back.

I stay away from bars that require bartenders to do the measured pour. Liquor is such a big money maker. Nothing says "we just want to take your money" more than the measured pour.

I hear you. Plus it's more likely that you'll spill if your drink is in one of those 25 oz cone shaped things.

I think the art of dressing is practiced more often than the art of a true to recipe, well mixed drink.
As I read somewhere, a martini should gently announce to your body that something balanced and delicious is coming next, not burn your face.

The Malt Imposter site is great. Thanks!

...and Diet Coke? Even worse than Coke atmo. Gimme seltzer or gimme water, but keep the sugar out of my drinks.

Enjoyed a truly smashing tap water while reclining in gray woolen trousers and a cashmere sweater today. Pip-pip!

when I am out, playing Lady and the Tramp; i want my martini like the woman on my arm- while elegant to look at, she is tall, dirty and ice cold

at home, at the desk and in the off season- single malt, neat.

If you have lots of money, Pappy Van Winkle.
If you have enough money, Woodford Reserve.
If you like a gen-u-wine bargain, Old Forester.
If you want cheap but palatable, Old Crow.
If you're from Tennessee or just want to pretend you are, Jack Daniel's.

There's something to be said for wearing your best suit and drinking liquor straight out of the bottle. It has a Kennedyesque insouciance that makes everything more fun.

We have a bar in Nashville (modeled after several similar bars in bigger cities) called the Patterson House. One of my favorites there is called the Clapless Belle.
It consists of a spicy ginger simple syrup, fresh lime juice, mint, a lot of bourbon, and a healthy dose of smoky, peaty scotch. Drinks shouldn't have that many ingredients, but that bar gets a pass.
