I always wondered how one could learn this without growing up next door to a master.

I could spend days at that museum.

The museum is awesome. They have an excellent art collection in addition to the exhibits.
Keep in mind that stuff you make in the classes has to cool, so plan on going back the next day to pick up your wares.
Every couple of years we go to the glass blower in Quechee VT. Love that place...

My amazing friends call me Shoogs.
Daughter Jessi was accepted into our local Metro Arts program this summer as an intern. The most exciting part for her was the glass class. I'll show her this since she'll be a lot closer to it this fall as an incoming freshman at DCAD in Wilmington DE.

we are lucky enough to have a local artisan festival here in SoCal, called the Sawdust Festival. we lose hours watching the glass blowers.
Blowing glass is a unique experience. I did it for years, starting in high school: my Racine, WI, school had a shop. I went to art school for it, and decided I didn't want to earn money as an artist. Still, there's absolutely nothing in this world like hot glass. Nothing.
