    I love Darwin.

This doesn't surprise me at all. I teach high school, and the stupid sh*t that I see teenagers do on a daily basis never ceases to amaze me. They just never think of what might happen.

Man, I used to run a quick pass on the ID of these plastic rings at the shop back in college. I'd put three of them in at a time, they were about 10" in diameter and about 7" ID I suppose, quarter of an inch thick. I had some custom jaws I'd made to accommodate them as you couldn't really torque the chuck key much (single handed was overkill) or they'd deform and then the ID wouldn't be right. Usually, I'd make 1-2 kiloparts at a time so I'd get in a rhythm pretty quickly. Every now and then, I'd have the left hand on the chuck key and the right hand on the clutch at the same time and pull that thing up while pushing against the key 'cause I'd started to engage the clutch. I did it half a dozen times probably, so only a fraction of a percent failures I suppose You'd be surprised how quickly you back the clutch out while with the chuck in the other hand. Of course, that wasn't ever on purpose like this. I never tried anything this stupid. The worst thing we ever did was duct tape someone up and run them up the overhead hoist to the ceiling--luckily no one got killed doing that. Forklift races were kind of dumb in hindsight.

Don Ferris could stall out that little lathe with one pinky, that guy's a sissy.

I like the awkward foot insertion for "leverage."

We had a guy in my shop class (woodturning project) that 'somehow' put his hand into the drive belts of the lathe. Hand & fingers came out chewed apart. No one liked this kid. All teacher could say was 'You dipshit' and left it at that........

and then I think how lucky some of have been over the years as growing up didn't kill us...yet.
