I've got this super crappy Nuvo H20 system. Not only does it do nothing it says, but also has other hidden features, like making the water smell like sewage. So I am getting rid of it. I just needed to make sure I was going about it the right way.

Fortunately, where the lines come into the filters (see below), it is threaded. 1" pipe, it looks like. So I am going to undo it, add in a threaded coupling on both sides(see second picture) and glue in a PVC pipe in between the existing pipes. Any issues with doing this? Seems like a simple enough job that I didn't bother calling a plumber. Plus, they are so booked right now, it's hard to even get a call back from most subs.

I'm not a plumber and what you're doing sounds exactly like something I would do. Fast, easy and cheap and should work just fine. If you have any pressure issues all those elbows aren't helping things and I would try and cut out all that stuff and get ride of it. If the pressure is fine and you thing you may go with another system in the future your plan should work.

In the UK we would not usually use a glued joint for high pressure pipes. I would use a plug in Speedfit or similar joint for plastic pipes.

Good call, Paul Jacobs. I found a plumbing supply store near by. And glad I did. They said PVC pipes aren't rated for indoor use, and especially not the glue-on coupler shown above. Proper way to do it is:

Get a couple of 90 deg elbows: SharkBite 1/2 in. Plastic PEX 9-Degree Barb Elbow (5-Pack)-UP248A5 - The Home Depot

Few crimp rings: Shop SharkBite 25-Pack 1/2-in dia Stainless Steel PEX Pinch Clamp Crimp Fittings at Lowes.com

Crimp tool and a piece of PEX pipe.

Cut above the brass fitting, install the 90 deg elbows, crimp on. Done.

We can't use PVC here at all in the house but I know some places can use plastic. Totally forgot there were different types for source and drain.

Yep...PVC is a no-go for water distribution as hot water will eventually be its demise. CPVC is ok though.

Spoken like a construction pro. One of the advantages of being a superintendent is having subs that are willing to "drop" by and look at a faulty outlet, sink, AC unit for a six pack of whatever. I try not to abuse this. My wife wonders why I can't fix it myself but that's for another thread.

One quick question to rwsaunders - You say PVC is no good for use with hot water. This line was pre-water heater, which means cold only. So regular PVC would work as well? Pex is just as cheap, so I don't see a reason why I'd go PVC, but I am now curious.

^ The IRC or International Residential (building) Code specifically prohibits PVC from being used for anything other than a waste or vent line.
