    Default welding hood

So here is my situation. I’ve been using a welding hood that is very cheep and hard to get along with. The darn thing keeps flopping down when I’m not ready. So its time to get something new and way cool. I need all the help that I can get with tig welding. Having a new hood probably won’t make me a better welder but you never know. What kind of hood do you use and if you had a choice of something better what would it be?

    Thanks Mike

When you get old like me, you can even put magnifying lenses in the Speedglas hood:)

Personally, I'm not super stoked on my Speedglas.

I've had it randomly turn off even when the batteries were fine (at least the little light didn't tell me otherwise), and I'm not super keen on the tint.
That said, it's seen better days and is pretty beat to hell. I got it when I got my first production bike welding job, which I think was probably about 6-7 years ago for what it's worth.

It's a cool mask when all is going well, and it's definitely nice to be able to adjust your hands without having to flip your mask back up.

Also, it seems like there's a newer model floating around now so maybe any issue noted above has been addressed.

    My $0.02.

Simple, light, efficient with a big window and options for additional optics...

    The Huntsman fiber helmet

W20 451P Big Window Fiber Shell Passive Welding Helmet [JAC 3000500] - $64.13 : Arc-Zone.com, The Welding Accessory Experts

Get the gold lens as well, helps with clarity of the puddle.

for the op...stays up when you want it to, comes down when you need it :)

    Cheers,

    rody

I go with the plastic version. W10 HSL 100 Passive Welding Helmet - Black [JAC 3002498] - $40.43 : Arc-Zone.com, The Welding Accessory Experts

Gold lens... 100%, there is no other options.
