Blug - A Bike Blog - Rivendell Bicycle Works
Here's a bit of info. A few posts before, they also have a great overview of lost-wax casting.
Is there any reason why a small builder, or hobby builder, couldn't massage those seat stay lugs into different angles? Seemed to me in the blog there was mention that this lug is for one bike and and one size, and no mention of altering the lug to accomodate different angles.
It's a nice lug! I could see myself cutting off a few of those points for a slightly less "busy" looking lug. Wonder if it will be available to the public.
Not likely. Grant mentioned changing chainstay length to alter angle. This is a piece meant for frames done in a more production like setting. It also takes away one of the few and best places on a frame for a framebuilder to leave his or her signature. I'm also not aware of Riv ever offering lugs for sale.
Ya what Jon wrote ^.
These are his designs for his line of frames.
Also, you can't and couldn't alter these without compromising the casting in the area where the stay ports are joined to the lug.
Good to know. Thanks!
