Wtf is the acronym, BMO Field?
Wtf is the acronym, BMO Field?
BMO is the new name for the Bank of Montreal. It put into short form the colloquial way Cannucks referred to it. Names are no good anymore it seems. Everyone is going with acronyms or initials.
The real reason they changed it to BMO is because they decided to single brand the network, including the branches throughout the US. They made the decision (probably correctly) that US customers would not react well to branches of the "Bank of Montreal".
Likewise BMO is active in the capital markets where dropping "Montreal" is seen as a benefit. Same considerations that lead to RBC ("Royal Bank of Canada") / TD ("Toronto Dominion") and Oppenheimer ("Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce" / "Wood Gundy").
Apologies for thread drift but I learned recently they're opening a TH in Madrid
