    Default Chamonix recommendations

    Hi all,
Planning a last minute ski trip with my 15yo ski racer daughter for the week after New Years. We're going to stay near La Rosiere (which I love) and ski there, Sainte Foy, and Tignes/Val d'Isere; Maybe Les Arcs, although I've been there before and found it to be a giant butt pain.

Thinking of staying 2 nights and skiing 2 days in Chamonix. Since it''s huge, I'm looking for input on best locations to look for lodging. Prefer to park the car once and have easy walking/shuttle access (hopefully walking) to lifts, dining, etc. We'll have our own skis so no need for rentals.

Anyone have on-the-ground experience & any tips?

    Thanks!
    John Cully

It is a fantastic area, I have visited it summer and winter for skiing and mountain running for the past 27 years. The ski areas do not connect together very well unless you can tour off piste. Argentiere is one of the best places for skiing. There is a very good bus and train service up and down the valley so you could stay in Chamonix town and still ski Argentiere. If you hire a local guide you get priority in the lift queues.

My family & I got a place on airbnb about 5 min walk from train station.
You could easily walk to a couple lifts and all of downtown shopping/restaurants.
Too far to walk to most lifts, but good public transport to the further lifts.
Awesome area and my daughter (actually all of us) would love to live there!

2 days is just not enough in Chamonix. Depending on the conditions, your daughter may want second and third helpings on Vallee Blanche and go beyond the classique route. If conditions are good Grand Montets is a blast .

Thanks guys! So if you were going to pick a home base, would you recommend Chamonix village, Argentiere, or ???

Nightlife not critical since it's me and my 15yo. Looks like 'slope side'/'walk to lifts' isn't really a thing there?
