    my current fav. does anyone know the advantage to these bottomless portafilters besides porn shots like this?

    From what I can gather it lets the barista watch the shot for visual cues of quality.

    It's to make the barista/shop using them to look badass of course.

    Seriously, my understanding is that it allows the barista pulling the shot to visually monitor it. I think the lack of a bottom also forces that barista to employ a lot of skill because that setup allows very little margin for error when it comes to getting nice crema. I think it may also produce better crema...I could have all of this wrong...

    Ristretto Roasters here in Portland is an advocate of this. If you've never tried their beans, I highly recommend them. Cowboy Blend makes a great French Press...
