I can smell that motorcycle. My uncle had one of those and I can’t tell you how many hours I sat on it in the driveway. How many times I kicked the engine over and twisted the throttle (with the ignition off).

Yep. After a couple years and learning to do roll jibs I started to go out in storms so I could spend the day planing and generally going nuts. I'd capsize it when exhausted and sit on the edge of the hull. It might be the most fun you can have in a one design. Ask me sometime about that day I sailed OUT the Indian River inlet to the ocean...total death wish.

Before the late, great "This is NOT a race. But over there are the trophies for the first ten finishers...." Octoberfest 100 miler in La Crosse, WI in 1992.


After the aforementioned event. Finished 2nd in 3:56 or something like that. Don't be mistaken. It was more of a race than any sanctioned event. The Scirocco went to the crusher not long after this.


Before what was ultimately my last ride in a sanctioned race, Superweek in 1996. No racing gas left in the tank and I started my next chapter a couple weeks later at the airport.

Cool times! Shame about the scirocco. I always wanted one of those, or a corrado. I scoped a scirocco on bring a trailer recently and the price was 😂😂😂
