i am a bit torn as i prefer the tradition of the 12meters. however, these are very cool boats: built very close to the edge, high tech, very fast and demanding of real physical abilty, reflex, instinct and luck! check out the speed of the turn at about 2:30. if we get some wind, this will be some cool racing.

What are the odds the Americans hang onto it?

I was in Auckland right after the Kiwis won it about 10 years ago, and saw their boat in a warehouse in the harbor- they are as different from a regular sailboat as an F1 car is from my Volkswagen.

Grew up in Newport and raced most of my life (including catamarans). That's racing, but it's not America's Cup racing.

its like a video game...
i used tovisit newport and one year i got a tour of the aussie boat by a very friendly aussie crew..
somewhere in my vast pile i have pics of the inside of the aluminum hull boat...which name i forget...
maybe either southern cross or australia... dont remember the year either...
it was post gretel 2 though...
i thk they were using that as a practice boat...
gets vague after awhile.
