ÜOS (Über OverSize) 27mm Fork Blade News Atmo -

The Sax Max crowns have been here, waiting patiently, since April. And now - finally - the first batch of ÜOS (Über OverSize) 27mm fork blades are here too. I have had them produced with a RS curve at the factory. Believe me atmo, this getting stuff from napkin to doorstep is not always a seamless proposition. To complement the project, Columbus is supplying me with lightweight, thin(ner) walled, 28.6mm steering columns. Coupled with the crowns, another option now exists for framebuilders who prefer to make their own fork rather than well - you know - get them from over there.

The initial order is comprised of .9mm wall blades some 440mm long. The dimensions allow for rakes in the 52mm offset or less depending on how you trim the sections. The steering columns are 320mm in length, and the walls are 2.0mm X 1.2mm. Righteous, huh.

I don't answer those types of questions in public.
The parts and dims are not interchangeable anyway.

Richard- I'm trying to discern what is a "Richie curve". I have looked at a couple of your bikes elsewhere in posted photos and from what I can tell the blade's curve is pretty much in the lower half of the blade. The curve is tight in radius, not like some trendy randy bikes but still tight (maybe a 6" radius form was used?). Again the curve tends to start right at the drop out (rake dependent?) but ends before you get to far up the blade.

Is my discription basicly correct? The photos of the bunch of blades is not directly from the sides so the perspective is challenging. Thanks, Andy.

All of my forks are in the 45mm-52mm range and I make mostly road dim spans for brake calipers. Here's a shot (3 of them) with 50mm in the curve. Notice that I set the shot up to mimic a head angle. The goal is to have the front dropout slot always Always ALWAYS vertical regardless of the angle and the offset. I have been doing it this way since 1979 when I returned from three weeks in Milan and one full day was spent at the Gianni Losa studio. He impressed upon me the fact and the method of how a road fork should be, mechanically. I found a way to make this curve as soon as I got off the plane. The blades get trimmed a hair after the rake is pulled. There is never any flat spot, dead spot, or distortion in or near the bottom. And, these newer parts are produced long (440mm) so that a nice compromise can be found in the radius for most applications. The top part also gets trimmed heavily after the work is done. The image shows a fork, curved, tip inserted, and cut to finished length. Again - note that the slot drops vertically. If yours do not, I suggest finding workarounds until they do atmo.

Thanks - don't forget this is a 27mm blade you're looking at. It makes the typical 24mm part look like it's from the De Gaulle era.

I'll have some at NAHBS. Craig had his at Ballers. In all I believe about forty
sets (steerer, blades, and Sax max crown) have been shipped already atmo.
